What's it all about?
Endurance 80 is an 80km (50 mile) hike, over 24 hours (or less if we can manage it) through the Buckinghamshire countryside, starting and finishing at Great Missenden.
There are about 100 teams from around the country, including us from the 5th Dunstable, consisting of Nick Porter, Brian Calvert, Liam Atkins, Paul McParland and Amy Palmer. Dan Chilcot can't join us, unfortunately.
We're doing it as a challenge, and also to raise some sponsorship for the Scout Group. If you haven't already done so, please contact a team member, or make your pledge below.
You can see the route map on the right, and once the event is under way, we plan to update this with our latest location from time to time, so you can watch our progress.
And finally, wish us luck!

Today, we've received our booking-in time, which is 07:15. So we'll need to be at the starting point by about 7am to get the formalities done, and I guess we'll be starting about 7:30. Although this is early, we reckon it's a good thing as (a) we'll get more of it done in daylight, and (b) the route won't have been so churned up by the teams ahead of us. |

Last Sunday (12 Feb) we embarked on the second half of the real route, intending to do the whole 25 miles. However, the going was a bit tough with lots of icy patches still, and Brian and Nick called it a day at about 17 miles, while Liam and Amy decided to do the lot. Well done to them. |

Well I personally had a short walk on Saturday, and it was definitely a bit chilly. But on Sunday, when we had hoped to go for a longer walk, the snow was deep and in big drifts, so we decided it might not be safe. So no training this weekend. |

Sunday saw some of us out again for another 20 miles. The going was a bit tougher this time, as the weather had been wet, and the ground was very muddy, boggy, and slippery in places. Consequently, we generally felt it had been a harder walk, even though it was the same one as last week. The full 50 miles might be a struggle! |

Another practice walk today. Liam, Nick and Amy walked 20 miles via Caddington, Markyate, Flamstead and Studham. Paul gave up after about 15, due to new boots and really bad blisters. |

New route sent out today by the organisers, so I've updated the map on this page. The new route can be found in full at: http://www.getamap.ordnancesurveyleisure.co.uk/?key=qvSaYQfOFXcaxn0b7aP2NA2 |

Out again today for our first practice of the new year. This time we succeeded in doing the Ivinghoe Beacon walk - 15 miles (and a bit) in a little under 5 hours, so the pace is good. I think some of us might have trouble keeping it up for more miles though! May try getting up to 20 miles next weekend. |

Well since it was snowing when we started, and some of our party were just a little disorganised, we changed our plans, and tackled a shorter walk, repeating the route of 2 weeks ago to Studham and back. |

Next training session is planned for Sunday 18 Dec, when my plan is to walk from Dunstable to Ivinghoe Beacon and back - about 14 miles.
We may experiment with updating our location while we're out, so the map might get updated a few times. |

Just back from our first 'training session', where Brian, Nick and Paul walked from Dunstable to Studham and back.
Only about 10 miles, but a good start. |

Team name now chosen, and registered: "The Fifth Column", suggested by Brian. |

This is our first blog entry. We've got a tentative team organised, consisting of Nick Porter, Liam Atkins, Amy Palmer, Paul McParland, Dan Chilcot, and possibly Brian Calvert. What we need now is a team name! |
